About Sisters of the Spirit
Not long after releasing her debut album, My Time Has Come, God gave Gospel Recording Artist Cynthia Green a vision to reach out to women and teach them the basic principles of love.
Cynthia recognized patterns of unloving behavior exhibited by women such as ill feelings towards one another, low self-esteem, and abusive habits. She noticed how these behaviors led to destructive relationships, destroyed families and even self-destruction. This compelled her to create an environment of change
Cynthia's vision was to start an outreach ministry within the four walls of her church before reaching out among the community. "God gave women the gift to give life and that gives us the innate ability to serve as strong and influential mothers in our families and communities", says Green.
Being obedient to the spirit of God, Cynthia followed His guidance and created this spirit filled outreach ministry with the support of Rising Star Baptist Church. We now affectionately know that ministry as Sisters of the Spirit. From here, Sisters of the Spirit Women’s Conference was birthed. Today, sisters around the country share the vision and passion of this dynamic organization that continues to touch the lives of women all over the world.
List of Our Accomplishments:
We used 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our foundation and many powerful women and men who served as prayer warriors to create our annual Community Prayer Breakfast. We prayed for the uplifting of our community, for our youth to stop the violence. We also prayed for the rebuilding of our families, our country and for our young men and women serving in the military. We do this event every January after New Years Day.
We inspired and motivated a group of teenage mothers at Mother's Refuge; a shelter for teens and their unborn and newborn babies. Sisters of the Spirit has expanded our outreach to teenagers by hosting a Teen Summit every April. We purpose to reach out to all our teenagers by helping them to overcome the peer pressures of life and allow them to make smart and wise decisions that will have a positive and sustaining impact on their lives.
The Bible says "train up a child in the way they should go." We took this principle and created our Girls Day Out Weekend. Each year we bless a group of young girls ages 5 to 12 with a weekend of fun, learning and developing new friendships. Sisters of the Spirit spend time with our little sisters by doing girl things (pampering sessions), having girl talk (peer pressure, self-esteem, etc.), experiencing new activities (museums, zoo, team-building), etiquette sessions (shopping and eating), focused workshops (nutrition, abstinence, etc.) and building their spiritual foundation with God during our Church service. We do this event every July.
Our Sisters of the Spirit Annual Women Conference is where we enlighten and touch the hearts of women from all walks of life. We encourage them to have self-respect, forgive, grow and be strong and bold for God. It is a weekend of spiritual renewel, laughter, release, restoration and sharing. We have helped those in need and blessed women in ways you wouldn’t believe. National Speakers and Ministers of Music are brought in to lend us a helping hand in encouraging women to live out the purpose God has given them. Our Women' s Conference takes place every October.
We experience Joy and Inspiration during our Taking It to the Streets initiative. We warm the hearts of our homeless brothers and sisters in the Kansas City MO area. We distribute winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets along with provide a hot meal. This Sisters of the Spirit program takes place every November around Thanksgiving.
The success of when all of God’s children from all over come together on one accord and love to warm the hearts with laughter, happiness and a joyous smile takes place during the Christmas Holiday Season gift wrapping event for the customers at Oak Park Mall. We do this every December before Christmas.
